About the weather data

Last updated: 2 October 2026

How Latvia Weather sources forecasts, warnings and climate context from LVĢMC — and how to read them.

Where the forecast comes from

Forecasts come from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC). We show hourly and 10-day outlooks for hundreds of forecast points across Latvia, updated about every 15 minutes when new data is published.

Weather warnings

Official LVĢMC warnings appear as yellow, orange or red alerts on the forecast page. Tap “View on map” to see warning areas on the weather map. Warnings can change quickly — always follow official instructions from competent authorities.

Compared with usual

The climate block compares recent station observations with 1991–2020 normals (temperature and rain) so you can see whether a month has been warmer, colder, wetter or drier than usual near each place.

Weather map

The map shows temperatures across Latvia and can highlight active warning polygons. Use the day and hour controls to scrub the next 72 hours.

Forecast Mate

Forecast Mate answers plain-language questions about the loaded forecast. It does not replace official warnings or emergency guidance.

Frequently asked questions

How often is the forecast updated?
We refresh LVĢMC hourly forecast data about every 15 minutes when a new feed is available.
What does a yellow, orange or red warning mean?
Those are LVĢMC warning levels. Yellow is caution, orange is significant risk, and red is the highest alert. Expand the warning and check the map for affected regions.
Why might climate “usual” differ from my town?
Climate comparisons use the nearest LVĢMC climate station. If that station is far away, local conditions can differ — we note the distance on the page.
Can I rely on this for safety-critical decisions?
No. Treat Latvia Weather as informational. For safety-critical, emergency, aviation, marine or medical decisions, follow official LVĢMC and authority guidance.
